Paintball tactics
Good aim gets you outs. Good tactics win games. These ideas come from real paintball fields and work the same way online.
The breakout
The first seconds of a point decide most of it. Before the horn, choose your first bunker and your lane. On the horn, either sprint and slide into that bunker, or stay at the start for a moment and shoot the lanes the other team must run through.
Lanes and angles
A lane is a line players must cross; an angle is a line from your bunker to a place an opponent can appear. Holding an angle means aiming there before they show, so you only have to pull the trigger.
Count who has an angle on you before you lean out. Lean out on the side only one of them can see.
Front and back
Front players push up the snake and the doritos to get close and tag players out from the side. Back players stay deeper, hold the long lanes and keep the other team's heads down so the front can move.
Trading
A trade is when you get one of them and their teammate gets you. Even trades favour the team with more players left, so move in pairs: when your partner goes out, the player who shot them is now looking the wrong way.
Aim, curve and movement
- Lead runners by about one body width every ten metres.
- Past thirty metres, hold the dot above their head; at fifty, about one body over.
- Lean while you fire to curve the ball round the edge of a bunker or a tree.
- Lob over tall cover at players who sit still.
- Slide into bunkers: sprint, then crouch while running.
A plan for each mode
- Speedball: win the breakout, then work the snake and the doritos together. Last one standing can win by hanging the flag.
- Capture the Flag: always leave someone home, and escort your carrier in a pair.
- Team Deathmatch: fight as a group, trade fast, and don't give away free outs.
- Free for All: stay off the middle, keep your back to a wall and take the winner of the last fight.
- Scenario: rockets for machines, boats for flanks, and never cross open ground under the blimp.
